Description

This portrait is of Hugh J. Chisholm, the creator of the International Paper Company and many other businesses. Chisholm was born in Toronto, Canada as the fifth child of 10 children born to parents who had migrated from Scotland. His father died accidentally when Chisholm was thirteen and so Chisholm was required to provide for himself from then forward.

Chisholm sold newspapers on the trains and became great friends with Thomas Edison, who also sold newspapers. He put himself through college and eventually became involved with the paper industry.

Chisholm absorbed over 20 pulp and paper mills through out the United States developing International Paper Company. Otis Mill became one of the world's largest manufacturer's of Wallpaper. He also created some of the first post cards in America showing area pictures. Chisholm died in 1912.
